Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival and City Tour in Entebbe
After breakfast, you'll be picked up by your safari guide, who will brief you before a tour that includes a walk through the Entebbe Botanical Gardens and a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (the former zoo), where you can see animals such as tigers, lions, leopards and hyenas. You'll return in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay as you prepare for the following day's drive upcountry.
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, your safari guide will brief you on the day ahead before you set off towards south-western Uganda, with a stopover at the Uganda Equator for photos, en route through panoramic views and ranches of long-horned cattle. Enjoy lunch and a cup of coffee in Mbarara town, then continue through the rolling, misty hills of Bwindi and traditional homesteads before reaching your lodge.
Gorilla Trekking and Optional Batwa Community Walk
Wake up for an early breakfast dressed in your gorilla trekking attire, then drive to the park office for a briefing and grouping. This is the most exciting and memorable part of the safari: tracking mountain gorillas through the forest, which can take 3–6 hours depending on their movement, with muddy trails to expect in the rainy season. Your guide may advise packed lunch for the trek, or a hot lunch on your return. In the evening, join an optional Batwa community walk and cultural dance, or simply relax at the lodge.
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on the lodge terrace, listening to the sounds of the forest, then check out with a packed lunch and drive through green hills and tea plantations towards the Ishasha sector for a game drive in search of the famous tree-climbing lions resting in fig trees, along with antelope such as Uganda kobs and topis, and common warthogs. Stop for a savannah picnic lunch by the Ishasha River, where you can watch hippos cooling off in the water, before continuing to check in at your accommodation.
Accommodation: Buffalo Safari LodgeChimpanzee Trekking and Afternoon Boat Trip
Wake early for breakfast and set off before sunrise for chimpanzee trekking in the Kyambura Gorge or Kalinzu Forest. Drive back to the lodge for a full breakfast and time to relax or swim, then head to the Mweya Peninsula via the channel track, where you may encounter herds of elephants, before lunch at Mweya Safari Lodge. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles and water birds gather at the shores for excellent close-up photography, before returning to the lodge — or joining an optional sundowner safari with Ugandan beer, soda and salty snacks.
Accommodation: Buffalo Safari LodgeTransfer to Entebbe
