This 5-Day Uganda Wildlife & Gorilla Trekking Safari begins in Kigali, Rwanda, and crosses the border into Uganda's south-western wilderness. After a short city tour of Kigali, you'll head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to trek through ancient rainforest in search of mountain gorillas — one of Africa's most unforgettable wildlife encounters. From there, the safari continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the Ishasha sector's tree-climbing lions and a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, home to one of the continent's largest hippo populations, round out an action-packed itinerary before you return to Kampala or Entebbe for departure.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
You'll be picked up from your hotel in Kigali, or directly from Kigali International Airport, early on Day 1 and set off on a Kigali city tour taking in highlights such as Kimironko Market, the Genocide Memorial sites, and local craft shops. After lunch, you'll head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the far south-west of Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, arriving in the late evening for check-in, dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you'll meet your safari driver (remember to pack drinking water, snacks, and suitable trekking attire) for a transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing covering the dos and don'ts of gorilla trekking. Guests are then divided into small groups based on the available gorilla families and head into the forest with armed rangers and local guides to track these remarkable primates.

You'll check out of your lodge in Bwindi and travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to the tree-climbing lions and the Kazinga Channel. After an en-route lunch, an evening game drive in the Ishasha sector offers a good chance to spot the famous tree-climbing lions along with other wildlife, before you settle into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, head out for a morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, Queen Elizabeth's premier game-viewing area. An early start improves your chances of spotting nocturnal hunters, alongside grazing wildlife such as hippos, elephants, zebras, lions, buffaloes and Uganda kobs. After lunch back at the lodge, enjoy an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, famous for hosting one of the largest hippo populations in Africa, plus other wildlife drawn to its shores to drink during the heat of the day.

On this final day, you'll have breakfast, check out, and begin the journey from Queen Elizabeth National Park back to Kampala. Along the way, enjoy an en-route lunch break in Mbarara at Igongo Cultural Hotel (or a hotel of your choice), plus a stopover at the equator for photographs. The safari concludes in Kampala in the late evening, in time for your flight or an overnight stay, depending on your onward plans.
